Meetings of the Tay Valley 200 Working Group are held monthly, at the Township Municipal Offices, on Harper Road, Tay Valley Township. The public is welcome. For details on meeting location and this Working Group, please call 613-267 5353

In Tay Valley Township's three original townships - North Burgess, Bathurst, and South Sherbrooke - the initial farm lands were granted and occupied in the spring of 1816. These first Scottish settlers and the veterans of the War of 1812 - from England, Scotland, Ireland, Poland, Italy, and Germany - were soon joined by waves of emigrants, taking up properties that extended far north and south of the historic 'Scotch Line'.

The upcoming 200th Anniversary celebrations will recognize and honour these early settlers - their hardships, dedication, accomplishments and their memory.

Watch this site for updates on progress.
The Tay Valley 200 Group is presently looking for local and family histories and photos (of those former Bathurst, Burgess and Sherbrooke townships). If you have these to share, please contact Noelle Reeve at planner@tayvalleytwp.ca or giving her a call at 613-267-5353, extension 128.

  • The Tay Valley 200 Working Group meets monthly at the Tay Valley Township offices. All meetings are open to the public. Contact the Township office (613-267 5353) or the number below for dates and times.

  • On April 8, 2011, eight Tay Valley Township and area citizens and township staff met at the Tay Valley Township Office to discuss the possibility of developing a celebration for this area's 200th anniversary in 2016. From this first meeting, a committee was formed - the Tay Valley 200 Working Group - and the first steps were taken for developing an appropriate celebration for this significant anniversary. The Working Group will cooperate closely with other anniversary committees established by the Town of Perth, the Township of Drummond/ North Elmsley, and other regional municipalities.

  • On August 27, 2011, the Tay Valley 200 Working Group presented a display at the Murphy Point Park Mica Festival, in North Burgess Ward of the Township. The event provided an opportunity to announce the preparations that have commenced for a celebration of the area's upcoming 200th Anniversary. Appropriately the festival's theme - mining - tied into one of our region's most important early industries of the area. The display also recognized the other significant sectors - forestry and agriculture.
